PLAY THERAPY SERIES

EMH's "Play Therapy" is a series of 6 double-sided artworks which are repurposed papers initially started by pre-adolescent students than finished by EMH Artists. The students started drawings during playtime and quickly"became bored" before abandoning the pieces, however they agreed to let EMH artists paint on top of them, while not completely covering up all of the their work, creating a true multi-generational collaboration. In the spirit of repurposing and Zero Waste, original EMH works were created on the flip side, so it's 2 paintings on 1 paper!

Titled: "Play Therapy #6"

About the Piece: The Front piece was inspired by a high school student who could not stop talking about the latest episode of ‘Love Island’ and their new relationship. They also grew up watching Nickelodeon and could not keep their hands off the nostalgic shade of orange. Feeling inspired with love in the air, EMH created an abstract ‘lovebird’ with rich vibrant colors reminiscent of romance and passion.

The Back piece was a mix of practicality tied together with spirituality. EMH artist are descendants of family who survived the Great Depression, and have the generational imprint of despising throwing away or wasting anything! They couldn’t pass up the opportunity finish an almost empty container of bronze paint, which laid a warm mysterious backdrop for melancholic trees blowing in the breeze. See that shade of blue on top? That was also some of a students work, left visible to create a skyline of collaboration.
