PLAY THERAPY SERIES
EMH's "Play Therapy" is a series of 6 double-sided artworks which are repurposed papers initially started by pre-adolescent students than finished by EMH Artists. The students started drawings during playtime and quickly"became bored" before abandoning the pieces, however they agreed to let EMH artists paint on top of them, while not completely covering up all of the their work, creating a true multi-generational collaboration. In the spirit of repurposing and Zero Waste, original EMH works were created on the flip side, so it's 2 paintings on 1 paper!
Titled: "Play Therapy #5"
About the Piece: The Front piece was started around the 4th of July, celebrating freedom of speech and self expression with an explosion of color, taking a small corner and expanding outward off the canvas like fireworks into the atmosphere of the night sky. This piece evokes an American mid-century cartoon feel where you can almost see a comic writing “KA-BOOM” inside a thought bubble on a panel.
The Back piece was started by a disgruntled student depicting an argument between themselves and a parent. Using art as the catalyst to facilitate feelings sharing and reflections without judgement, they were able to process the emotions and make amends with their parental caregiver. In keeping true to the original work, and noting the students fascination with Ancient Egypt, EMH created the feeling of 2 abstract figures conversing set with Bronze and Gold tones.
Measures 23.5" x 19"
