PLAY THERAPY SERIES
EMH's "Play Therapy" is a series of 6 double-sided artworks which are repurposed papers initially started by pre-adolescent students than finished by EMH Artists. The students started drawings during playtime and quickly"became bored" before abandoning the pieces, however they agreed to let EMH artists paint on top of them, while not completely covering up all of the their work, creating a true multi-generational collaboration. In the spirit of repurposing and Zero Waste, original EMH works were created on the flip side, so it's 2 paintings on 1 paper!
Titled: "Play Therapy #4"
About the Work: Bringing back EMH’s signature drip gestural style, the front piece features artists 3-finger technique, dipping their hand directly into the can of paint and creating a windup motion using their middle finger and thumb like a catapult to flick the paint on the paper. This piece was the artists reconnecting with their roots of passion for creating gestural pieces.
The Back Piece was a student painting the reflections of a sunset at the beach, with hints of their pink and orange watercolor paint still visible underneath the gestures. On top came a layers of complementary colors applied with a zen tranquil meditative pulse; the artists took at least 5 deep breaths in between each throw, creating a relaxed feel and a true exercise in patience to channel a soft calm controlled rhythm.
